Weird Food Fact 🤓

I spend entirely too much time on my food styling.

Why?

Because if my recipes didn’t look good, you guys would never make them and then realize how good they actually are!

And as I dove more into the world of food styling, I realize the food I see in commercials isn’t actually “food.”

Disclaimer: You won’t be able to see these food commercials the same 😭

And yes all my food is real lol. I’d be dead if I ate all the things I am about to show you that are used.

1.) Whipped Cream = Shaving Cream

It’s used because it holds its form at room temp for MUCH longer than regular whipped cream!

2.) Crazy Cheese Pull = Glue + Mozzarella

Melted mozzarella + the glue painted on the edges of the slice you are going to do the cheese pull with.

Results in an insane cheese pull. I don’t do this lol. I focus more on timing because I actually want to eat my pizza.

3.) Ice Cream Scoops = Instant Mashed Potatoes + Food Coloring

Literally make the instant mashed potatoes and add in the food coloring of the flavor ice cream.

4.) Maple Syrup on Pancakes = Motor Oil on Pancakes

Since the motor oil isn’t absorbed into the pancakes, it looks MUCH better than maple syrup for much longer!

5.) Golden Brown Turkey = Self-Tanning Spray on Uncooked/undercooked Turkey

Helped to have the turkey look fresh and plump, not shrunken like when you cook it.

6.) Beer with Foam = Dish Soap + Beer

Keep that nice foam at the top of the beer glass.

7.) Red Strawberries on Cake = Red Lipstick on Strawberries

This gives the strawberries that super red vibrant look.

8.) Chocolate Lava coming out of Lava Cake = PVA Glue + Black Food Coloring + Sodium Tetraborate

Instead of hoping for perfect-looking lava to come out of the cake, they just make a cake without the lava in the middle.

Then they cut out where the lava would be and then add this mixture in there.

9.) Ice = Resin Ice

You can buy these off Amazon. These are great for shots where you don’t want the ice to look melted.

10.) Cereal Milk = Glue

The most important reason that glue works better than milk is that the cereal (or whatever other food the milk is photographed with) won’t absorb it so fast.

This way, you’ll have crunchier and crisper-looking cereal for longer.

That’s the list! And I know there are plenty more I didn’t cover. Let me know if I missed anything.

Also, I will cover my full food styling protocol (all real food!) if you want me to in the future! Just let me know.

And if you just want my full food photography with your iPhone tutorial, let me know too 📱

One FAQ ❓

Question from Taylor (Boulder, Colorado) - "I constantly gets the munchies, and have the BIGGEST sweet tooth, what are good snacks to have on hand? I have my big bowl of mixed fruit, and I used the candy hack you sent a while ago, but what else can I doooo?"

Answer: In honor of 4/20 being yesterday, I felt it was right to finally answer this question.

And as a disclaimer, I have nothing against smoking weed.

To each their own.

I don’t see/label anything in life as “good” nor “bad”.

My answer is always “well it depends.” I need context.

Same goes for my nutrition.

I smoke or take edibles maybe once per month with friends. It’s hilarious.

So here’s my exact game plan for the munchies without blowing over my macros.

1.) My mindset for the munchies is not snacks. It’s meals.

Snacks are easy to go overboard on. There is no end to them.

You just keep going from one snack to the next.

The change of taste, texture, and mouth-feel will lead to you being able to each much more food.

But a meal has an end to it.

And a meal is A LOT of food so it can satisfy the munchies.

Plus being prepared with a savory and sweet meal combo is a game changer.

Will cover that more in a bit.

2.) When you get the munchies matters.

I personally will only smoke/take an edible before dinner.

Because I know I have dinner and dessert ahead of me!

Getting high when you don’t have any macros left is not smart.

It’s like going to the grocery store with no money lol.

3.) Be prepared.

Have your dinner and dessert planned out to be as high volume as you’d like.

I love a big burrito bowl with plenty of veggies to add a lot of volume!

OR a big FDL Pizza.

Then I prep a Ninja Creami pint to have after the savory part of my dinner.

AKA ya boy is in heaven and not blowing over the macros!

To sum it all up, just have a game plan and you going to be eating good in the neighborhood!

If you have a question of your own, reply to this email and you might be featured in next week's edition 😁

Serving Surprise 😮

Speaking of munchies and ice cream, I just want to reiterate one big point.

A literal game changer.

There are two kitchen appliances I think are absolute musts in the kitchen.

The Air Fryer.

And the Ninja Creami.

Why?

It's the savory and sweet combination.

Air Fryer for Lunch/Dinner/sometimes Dessert.

Creami for Dessert.

Being able to eat a whole pint of ice cream for 300 calories with 40g of protein is insane.

And it's legit ice cream.

And trust me, I am an appliance snob.

I hate unnecessary shit.

This thing is worth it IF you love ice cream and want to eat it every single day while reaching your goals.

For example, this is what 350 calories of Ben & Jerry's looks like:

And it has 37g of sugar with only 6g of protein.

And then this is what 350 calories of my protein ice cream looks like:

Yes this is a whole pint. Ohh and it also has 40g protein.

I made a whole video of my 19 favorite Ninja Creami recipes if you are looking for some new ideas!

I recently was at Walmart and snagged this pic of a Creami for $169.

Also some good deals on eBay as well.

I've also heard people getting them from Costco for around $120.

All in all, I just want you to enjoy as much delicious food as possible while reaching your goals!

That's how the results come easy and then become even easier to KEEP those results.

I hope you are having a great weekend my friend!

Much love and happy cooking,
Zach
